Killers of the Flower Moon -- One Book, One Community

The Center for Oklahoma Studies is proud to partner with the Stillwater Public Library and a broad range of community partners to bring programming to the Stillwater area that provides cultural and historical context for David Grann's book, Killers of the Flower Moon.
The series kicked off on March 1st with Dr. Andrea Hunter of the Osage Nation Historic Preservation Office presenting a talk on "The Osage Nation: A Brief History". On March 6th, Dr. Katrina Lacher of the University of Central Oklahoma (UCO) discussed "The Problem of Riches: Oil Boom and Bust in Indian Country," and her presentation was followed by the opening on March 8th of a related exhibit at the Stillwater History Museum at Sheerar. Dr. Dwight Adams, also of UCO, presented on forensic science on March 15th, and on March 20th, the library hosted a screening of the documentary Osage Tribal Murders with a follow-up discussion led by long-time Osage Tribal Museum director Kathryn Red Corn.
A cultural fair on March 24th, a lecture by Addie Roanhorse on Osage art on March 26th, and a performance by the Osage Student Ballet on April 5th all are part of the lead up to the culminating lecture, which will be held on April 12th. That evening at 7:00 pm, author David Grann will come to Gallagher-Iba Arena on the Oklahoma State University campus to discuss the book at the center of all of this programming, Killers of the Flower Moon: The Osage Murders and the Birth of the FBI.No tickets will be required, but all seating is "first come, first served". The doors will open at 6:00 pm, and Grann will take the stage at 7:00 pm along with Osage guests Margie Burkhart, Marvin Stepson, and Kathryn Red Corn. A book signing will begin at approximately 8:00 pm. The event will also be livestreamed on OState TV at http://ostate.tv.
